I moved here to Glen Afton in 2016 onto a piece of overgrown bushland covered in gorse, blackberry and privet. Since then I've been clearing the ground and planting herbs, natives and fruit trees wherever possible.

Glen Afton is an old coal mining village, and there was also a pottery and clay mine here too. Whenever I dig a hole I find either coal or clay!

Thank goodness there are a lot of herbs that still manage to thrive in these conditions. My mugwort is one of these and is one of the main botanicals used in Mr Mug sweet vermouth. https://mrmug.nz/
